Livni urges support for two-state solution

"Israel is willing to strengthen [Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud] Abbas, in the interest of all moderates in the region. As in Lebanon, [Palestinian] extremists don't represent the interests of moderates," Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Tuesday afternoon in a joint press conference with British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett. "It's about time that the moderates in the Arab world realize that the two-state compromise represents the real and just solution and support the leaders who want to be a part of the process," Livni continued. "We don't want to create embarrassment for Abbas in the Palestinian street, but right now the goal is to establish a new Palestinian government, with legitimacy from the international community. Let's hope Abbas and the others take the right steps," Livni concluded.
