Majadle slammed for accepting free sports tickets

Newly-appointed Science, Culture and Sport Minister Ghaleb Majadle (Labor) came under fire on Wednesday for accepting free tickets to several sporting events - a move apparently prohibited by Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz and the Knesset Ethics Committee. Majadle went to see Sunday's soccer game between Maccabi Haifa and Betar Jerusalem, and Thursday's basketball match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Panathinaikos of Greece. In an interview with Army Radio, Majadle apologized and claimed that he did not know it was not allowed. "This is the first time I'm hearing that this applies to Knesset members. I've been a member of Knesset for nearly two and a half years, and such a thing was never made known to me," he said. He added that he would be "very happy to watch games in the next few weeks - and also to pay for the tickets."
