The Petah Tikva District Court on Sunday sentenced a man who stabbed a doctor at Kaplan Hospital to six years in prison. Ariel Shamilov, 64, was convicted of stabbing and seriously wounding Dr. Marius Guy nine months ago. Shamilov had arrived at the hospital on May 28, 2008 and asked for an appointment with Dr. Guy. A secretary gave him a date, but Shamilov told her he would like to wait for the doctor. When Guy arrived, Shamilov began shouting at him that he wanted "an operation now." When the doctor went to check Shamilov's records, the man followed him while continuing to shout and then pulled out a screwdriver, stabbing him in the back of the neck. He then stabbed the doctor several more times. Shamilov had pleaded guilty in the case, as part of a plea bargain in which the charges against him were reduced from attempted murder to causing grievous bodily harm. Shamilov will also pay Guy NIS 25,000 in compensation.
