More than 100 disabled people in the Tel Aviv area will now be able to continue living at home thanks to a new program established recently by non-profit organization Matav, which provides care and welfare services mostly to the elderly.
Set up in cooperation with the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality, the Los Angeles Federation - twinned with Tel Aviv through Partnership 2000 - and the Joint Distribution Committee, the new project will allow the disabled to continue living at home but will unite them with services enjoyed by those who live in sheltered accommodation.
Those participating in the program will be equipped with an assistance button in their home providing them with emergency services, such as contact with a doctor or access to an ambulance. The program will also facilitate many of Matav already existing services, such as daily companions to assist with shopping and a forum for social groups.
Founded in 1958, Matav provides professional support and assistance to elderly people from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat and also runs sheltered housing and day care centers for those in their golden years.
