Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz rejected on Saturday criticism that he had moderated his position on the severity of former president Moshe Katsav's acts.
"Treating the draft indictment like a decision we reversed is just not right," Mazuz said in an interview on Channel 2. "The January draft wasn't a final decision on the significance of the evidence," he said.
"There were contradictions in A's version [of events], and her testimony was contradicted by other witnesses," the attorney-general explained. "It wasn't possible to base an indictment on this plaintiff," he added.
"Nevertheless, we fully believe her statements - I believe Katsav didn't tell the truth when he said they hadn't had sex," Mazuz said.
