Northern border leaders to protest security cuts

The regional councils heads of the northern communities threatened on Monday to shut off the lights along the fences surrounding their towns border to protest the Defense Ministry's reported plan to cut the budget for security components in that region in half. The local leaders claimed that if the cuts were to be implemented, it would eliminate security precautions such as lighting around their perimeter fences, and reduce the fuel they could use for the vehicles monitoring their security, Israel Radio reported. The Defense Ministry revealed that the budget was intended to be cut because the funds had to be reallocated to the communities located near the Gaza Strip. Efforts were being made to minimize the damage incurred by the cuts, they added.
