Olmert: Our neighbors' moves can't be anticipated

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Thursday morning said that the South must be kept free of the threat of rocket-fire from the Gaza Strip. Speaking four days after the end of Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, Olmert said "I hope the quiet will continue for a long time… [but] we live in a severely uncertain region, we have neighbors who's responses can't be anticipated." He warned that the situation with Hamas continued to be volatile, saying "despite the quiet, it must be taken into account that things can roll differently." He noted that the IDF did not want to use all of its power to show Hamas that "in this confrontation, at the end of the day, we all lose."
