One person was killed and two were moderately injured on Tuesday in a work-related blast at a factory producing explosive material near Zichron Ya'acov. Soon after the sound of the explosion, a sizeable force of MDA rescue units, police and Zaka forces rushed to the scene. The casualties were rushed in MDA ambulances to Rambam Hospital in Haifa. The precise cause of the accident was unclear, however Zichron Ya'acov MDA Director Avi Tzafon assessed that most of the injuries resulted from chemical burns. Last February, 12 people were injured in a similar work accident at a Rafael military factory near Haifa that was caused by a malfunction of a generator during an inspection of IDF naval vessels.
