Over 50,000 people took part in the Birkat Hahama prayers at Jerusalem's Western Wall on Wednesday morning, Army Radio reported.
The special event, the blessing of the sun when when, the Talmud says, the sun reaches the same spot in the firmament as when it was created, will not occur again for another 28 years.
Following the event, all roads surrounding Jerusalem's Old City have been blocked.
Police have requested that those attending the ceremony will leave the Old City using public transportation.
