Palestinian killed in central Gaza

A Palestinian teenager was shot to death early Sunday in the central Gaza Strip near the border with Israel, Palestinian Interior Ministry officials said. Palestinian security officials originally had said a gunman was killed. The Israeli army said soldiers identified a Palestinian crawling toward the security fence near the Bureij refugee camp, and shot him. Hospital officials identified the teen as 16-year-old Hamad Hamdan of Deir el-Balah in southern Gaza. Interior Ministry officials said they did not know why Hamdan was near the border. Some Palestinians have been shot trying to enter Israel to find work. Separately, Israeli aircraft fired missiles that landed in empty fields in northern Gaza, and on an empty road in central Gaza, near a power plant, Interior Ministry officials said. No injuries were reported. The army said the attacks targeted access roads to sites Palestinian militants use to launch homemade rockets at southern Israel. It said it did not target the power plant.
