Two Border Policemen were stabbed near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron on Sunday afternoon. One soldier was stabbed in the back and the other was stabbed in the hand.
MDA teams arrived on the scene and administered emergency care. They were then taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem for further treatment.
The attacker, a 17-year-old Palestinian who had entered the site through the Palestinian side of the cave, was shot and wounded in the leg. He was also taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital.
MK Nissan Slomiansky (NU/NRP) said in response to the attack that "the stabbing in the Cave of the Patriarchs is a direct result of the statements of Defense Minister Amir Peretz, who busies himself with evacuating Jews from their legally-purchased homes in order to win votes in his party's primaries.
"Peretz should only be worried about the security of Jews, not with his political future. Today's event is the first result of terrorists renewing their effort to attack Jews."
A spokesperson for Peretz's office denied the accusations, saying that the stabbing incident had nothing to do with the defense establishment's recent decision to evacuate a contentious Hebron home, which is on the road that links Kiryat Arba with the Cave of the Patriarchs.
Baruch Marzel, right-wing activist and head of the Jewish Front, said that the attack was "the terrorists' answer to those who wish to release Hamas prisoners with blood on their hands."
