Defense Minister Amir Peretz, addressing the Labor faction in the Knesset on Monday afternoon, said that "the cease-fire is being maintained, and the government is working on coordinating with UNIFIL on handing over territory. Israel has no intention of remaining in the 'mud' of Lebanon."
According to Peretz, "There will no doubt be a change in the situation in Lebanon. South Lebanon will be demilitarized and calm will return. We are on guard for violations of the cease-fire, and we'll respond decisively to any violations."
"We will not allow the situation that existed before the war to return. I hope that in wake of our operations the extremists have been weakened and moderates have been strengthened, and there will be an investigation on what happened before and during the war," Peretz added.
