Peretz vows to integrate haredim into work force

Labor leader Amir Peretz claimed on Friday that he was the one who could help integrate the haredim into the Israeli work force. He set himself a goal, according to Israel Radio, where he would reach a common statement with leading rabbis, stating that productive and industrial labor does not contradict the Torah. According to Peretz, the walls dividing between the haredi and secular sectors should be toppled. On a different note he added that governmental support for the elderly should be valued at a quarter of the average per capita income.
