Police block Hamas gathering in east Jerusalem

Two buses transporting a group of Israeli Arabs making their way to a banned Hamas gathering in east Jerusalem was stopped Monday by police on a highway on the outskirts of Jerusalem, police said. The buses, carrying residents of the northern Israeli Arab city of Umm el Fahm, was turned back by the police. Separately, four Hamas activist were detained by police just outside the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Tsur Bahir where the event was to have been held, police said. Over the weekend, police shut the east Jerusalem soccer stadium where the Hamas parley was planned, in the latest in a series of moves against Hamas activity in the city.
