Four Palestinian teens were caught stealing five
Torah scrolls from a Beit Shemesh synagogue, police said Thursday.
The four suspects were nabbed red-handed by Beit Shemesh police Wednesday night outside the Etz Hazayit Synagogue as they waited with the scrolls for a getaway car, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said.
The four suspects were brought to a Jerusalem court Thursday for a remand hearing.
The Torah scrolls, valued at NIS 1 million, were not damaged in the thwarted burglary and have been returned to the synagogue, the police said.
