An M-16 rifle seized by IDF forces from a Nablus hideout used by terrorists killed during a counterterrorism raid was used to murder Rabbi Meir Chai last Thursday, police said Sunday, following a ballistics examination. During Saturday's security operation, in which three Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigades members were killed, the army recovered firearms in the terrorists' possession and transferred them to the Israel Police's ballistics lab in Jerusalem. "They were examined in detail, and a clear match was made between one of the weapons and the scene of the attack in which the Israeli citizen was killed," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told The Jerusalem Post. "This confirms that these were the terrorists who carried out the attack, and justifies the importance of the security operation that was launched immediately after the shooting," Rosenfeld added. "Security forces tried to bring [the terrorists] in alive, but had no option other than to engage," Rosenfeld said.
