Post-elementary school classes throughout the country will resume next week, the Secondary School Teachers' Union announced on Thursday, ending the strike that has been in effect since last week. The teachers agreed to resume negotiations with the Finance Ministry over salary issues this coming Sunday. They said, however, that sanctions preventing teachers from participating in trips and activities beyond regular school hours would remain in place. The teachers have been demanding an improvement in the wage schedule and an increase in the number of early retirement packages offered to educators. Every day for the past week, a different region of the country has shut down its schools as part of the teachers' protest. Areas affected by the strike so far have included Tel Aviv and the Center of the country, Jerusalem and Haifa, as well as schools in the North and South.
