The parents of Cpl. Avihai Nahum, the IDF soldier killed in Monday night's traffic accident near Kiryat Shmona, lost another son, also a soldier, in a terror attack five years ago.
Avihai, whose name was released for publication on Tuesday, died when the jeep in which he and three other troops were traveling collided head-on with an approaching truck.
An officer was seriously injured, and another solider lightly injured in the accident which occurred near the 'Tank' Junction on Route 99 - the road from Kiryat Shmona to the Banays. The group was on its way to the village of Ghajar.
The surviving victims were evacuated to Ziv Hospital in Safed and Rambam Hospital in Haifa.
An initial investigation revealed that the military jeep had been speeding seconds before it veered from its lane for an unknown reason and crashed into the truck. Both vehicles caught fire.
One of the Nahum family's other sons, Nir, was murdered along with 13 others when an Islamic Jihad suicide bomber drove a car packed with more than 100 kilograms of explosives into the back of a No. 841 Egged bus at Karkur Junction near Pardes Hanna. Sixty-five were wounded in the attack.
Avihai and Nahum are survived by their parents, Rami and Penina, and their siblings, Shlomi, Netanel and Bar.
