The State Prosecution responded on Sunday to the petitions made to the High Court of Justice against the appointment of Haim Ramon as Vice Premier and announced that there was no legal obstacle to his appointment as a minister, despite his conviction of indecent assault.
The petitions were filed by The Legal Forum for the State of Israel, the National Religious Women's Organization - Emunah, Tmurah and Achoti.
The petitioners claimed that since the former justice minister was convicted of a serious offence, his appointment was extremely unreasonable, affected by ulterior motives and constituted a severe insult to women.
They also claimed that due to his conviction, Ramon should not even be allowed to "work as a cleaner or security guard in a government office".
