By DAN IZENBERGIsrael's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip has changed the legal circumstances of its targeted assassinations policy, the state will argue on Sunday at a hearing before the High Court of Justice.
According to the state's representative, Attorney Shai Nitzan, the Gaza Strip is no longer occupied by Israel. Therefore, the assassinations of terrorist leaders should now be regarded as acts of war taking place in an area outside of Israel, and therefore similar to the area of a foreign country from which acts of war are being conducted against Israel.
The court is due on Sunday to renew hearings suspended in February on a petition filed by the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel against targeted assassinations.
