'The Times' ranks Hebrew University among the best

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem has been ranked among the top universities in the world in a comprehensive survey conducted by The Times Higher Education Supplement of London. The ranking places the Hebrew University far ahead of any other Israeli institution. The Times listed the Hebrew University in 77th place on a chart showing the world's 200 best universities. The recently published rankings - conducted last year for the second year in a row by the Times -- are based on a scale of indicators that include academic peer reviews, citations of academic papers written by faculty members, staff to student ratios and a survey of global recruiters of graduates. In finishing in 77th place, the Hebrew University moved up considerably from its previous ranking of 93rd in the 2004 Times survey. In specific areas of study, the Hebrew University finished in the top 100 in the world, including 36th in the humanities, 54th in the social sciences, and 71st in biomedicine, all rankings that exceeded that of any other Israeli institution. In the sciences, the university was ranked 98th.
