Transportation Ministry reports 14% rise in train system users

The number of passengers on trains in Israel has risen, Army Radio reported Sunday. In the second quarter of 2008 some 8.8 million train tickets were sold, a rise of 14 percent compared to the same period last year. According to the Army Radio report, the average amount of train travelers rose during June, July and April to 131,500 per month, a rise of 11% compared to the same months last year. According to the Transportation Ministry, the sharp rise may have been a result of the opening of three new stations - Modi'in Central, Ganei Aviv, and Kiryat Arieh.
