IDF troops shot and killed a top Hamas commander on Tuesday during a gunbattle in a Gaza City neighborhood, the Islamic group said in a statement.
The army took over Wael Hassanin's home at the start of the overnight operation, sparking a firefight with Hassanin and other Hamas gunmen, witnesses said.
Hassanin, 26, a top Hamas commander in Gaza's Zeitoun neighborhood, was apparently the target of the operation. He was killed in the gunbattle, Hamas said.
