Twenty-three people were lightly injured on the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway Sunday morning when a tourist bus slid out of control, hitting a bus and car. The accident took place near Sha'ar Hagai at approximately 6:30 a.m. Eyewitness Avi Yanon told Army Radio that the private bus skidded from its lane and smashed into a guardrail, hitting a car in the process. An Egged bus that came up from behind then hit the two vehicles. Following the accident, Tel Aviv-bound traffic was obstructed for several hours and heavy traffic congestion was reported. "Magen David Adom teams had trouble reaching the scene at first because of the traffic jam that developed," Yanon said. Police called on motorists to use alternate routes such as Route 443. The injured were evacuated to Jerusalem hospitals.
