Two Tel Aviv men indicted in Felix Halfon shooting

Two charged with grievous bodily harm, illegally carrying a firearm and drunk driving.

Two Tel Aviv men were indicted Tuesday in connection with shooting former national soccer team defender and Hapoel Tel Aviv star Felix Halfon some two weeks ago outside a Tel Aviv nightclub. The two, Shimon Ben Harush, 20, and Rami Ovadiya, 21, were charged with grievous bodily harm, illegally carrying a firearm and drunk driving. Prosecutors have asked to remand the two suspects until the end of legal procedings. Police said the shooting followed an argument Halfon had in the Kuya nightclub, and was not connected to any criminal activity on the part of the former soccer player. He was seriously wounded, but has condition has since improved. Halfon's sporting prowess has been matched by a checkered past of criminal activity. In 2003, he was arrested at Ben-Gurion Airport for smuggling cocaine into the country from Venezuela. Halfon was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison, but served three years because of good behavior. In January 2009 he was sentenced to three months of community service for forging checks. In May, the soccer player was arrested in Holon for sexually harassing a woman. Yaakov Lappin contributed to this report
