A 16-year-old was assaulted and hospitalized last week by a second youth in Rishon Lezion for refusing to hand over his bicycle to his attacker.
The victim was approached by two youths in a school yard and ordered to hand over his bike. He was slapped repeatedly on the head after refusing, resulting in a torn eardrum.
The victim's mother took him to a local medical clinic for an examination. On their way home, the youth collapsed, banged his head and was rushed to an intensive care unit at the Assaf Harofeh Hospital, where he remained hospitalized Monday.
Police arrested a 15-year-old suspect on Sunday in connection with the attack. The suspect first claimed he had carried out the assault to avenge the victim's sexual molestation of women.
Police have dismissed the teenager's claims and plan on indicting the suspect on aggravated assault charges.
The teenager in custody has a criminal record of past violent offenses. A Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court judge ordered him held until Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in Rehovot, police arrested a nightclub bouncer on Friday night for punching a man and breaking his jaw and eye socket. The bouncer told police the incident had taken place after the man, who was visiting the club, became violent and attempted to leave the club with a glass beer bottle, contrary to club regulations.
The bouncer was released to house arrest. Police plan on indicting him on assault charges.
On Saturday night, a fight broke out at a house party in Nahalat Yehuda, near Rishon Lezion, when five uninvited guests showed up at the home. The youths convinced the party's organizers to let them in, but then became violent, with two of the suspects stripping to their underwear and smashing others on the head with glass bottles.
One person was taken to the Assaf Harofeh Hospital with head injuries and was listed in good condition. Two Rishon Lezion residents were arrested.
In another incident early Monday, a cab driver picked up four passengers from Or Yehuda who asked to be taken to Ramle. The passengers directed the cab to a park and began punching the driver, demanding that he hand over his cash. After a struggle, the suspects made away with the money. Police have launched a search for the robbers.
On Friday night in Lod, a man with a criminal record was shot in the leg. Officers were summoned after neighbors reported hearing several shots fired, but the victim had already been evacuated by family and friends to Assaf Harofeh Hospital. Police said the shooting victim had not cooperated with detectives, but police arrested a suspect on Sunday.
Also in Lod on Friday, police were summoned after receiving a report of an intoxicated man who had stabbed himself in the hand in front of his children.
The man told officers that he had been attacked with a knife by his girlfriend's female friend. However, the friend said the man had assaulted her after she had asked him to stop physically abusing his partner. The man then went into the kitchen and began stabbing himself, the woman said.
After being released from the hospital just before 4 a.m. on Monday, the suspect launched a ferocious assault on his girlfriend, punching and striking her repeatedly, police said. Magen David Adom paramedics rushed the injured woman to the hospital. The suspect, who denied assaulting his girlfriend, was arrested.
