Polish Radio begins daily Hebrew broadcasts to Israel

'Kol Polin' transmitting from Warsaw to air 30 minute show of news from Poland every day except Friday evenings.

Poland's national radio network, Polish Radio, has opened a Hebrew section that will broadcast a half-hour Hebrew-language show throughout Israel. The first show aired on Sunday night at 9:30 p.m., and will continue to air at the same time daily Saturday through Thursday. "Our daily 30-minute show will offer news from Poland six times a week... and listeners will also hear Polish press reviews, business news, reports on cultural events, political analysis, news and reports from Jewish communities, interviews with people from Israel and Poland and also Polish/Jewish music," related Michael Hermon, head of Polish Radio's Hebrew section. Hebrew will mark the seventh language on Polish Radio's External Service, after Polish, English, German, Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian. Commenting on the decision to proceed with a Hebrew service, WRN, the international transmission company that manages the service, noted that the broadcast comes as the last of "many steps towards reconciliation towards Israel and the Jewish people that have been initiated by Poland in recent times," including the June 26 founding in Warsaw of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. The show, titled Kol Polin (Voice of Poland), will broadcast live from Warsaw. It will be broadcast in Israel on 107.2 FM in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the coast, and on 89.3 FM to the North, including the towns of Afula and Nazareth. Israeli listeners will be able to call the Warsaw station toll-free at 1-809-214-216.
