In 2023, I decided to take a course in public speaking. I found a brilliant teacher named Kate Gilbert, and we started practicing.
During one of the lessons, Kate told me, “Eduard, please go back in your thoughts to the place where you were born and then please describe it.”
I was born in Ukraine, in Dniepropetrovsk (now called Dnipro), in a semi-underground apartment that had one room and a kitchen. Six of us lived there – myself, my parents, my grandmother, my great-grandmother, and my mother’s aunt.
I did what Kate told me to do, and I recalled everything, including all of the apartment’s minor details. I was suddenly struck with an overwhelming feeling of love and warmth.
For in that tiny flat, I lived with my parents and grandparents, who loved me UNCONDITIONALLY.
I returned home, and I wrote the song in 30 minutes.
Dear friends, we all need UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. I was lucky to have it, but even if you didn’t, give it to your loved ones, and it’ll return to you.
