The city's Education Department has undertaken a project in 16 Haifa elementary schools to teach parents about the education system, reports Yediot Haifa. The project, aimed mainly at Arabic and ultra-religious schools, is reportedly already reducing conflicts between parents and schools, and other local authorities have begun asking for details so that they can copy it.
According to the report, education officials and social workers have undergone special training in order to be able to help parents, and are working in four languages: Hebrew, Arabic, Amharic and Russian. The officials aim to ease communication with the schools, provide information to parents and clarify misunderstandings and misconceptions. The Education Department has approved the project, and principals in the participating schools say there has already been a significant drop in the number of conflicts with parents. The project will be officially discussed at an educators' conference in Rishon Lezion in February.
