Haifa University expanding satellite campus

The port campus will make use of an existing building that used to serve as city headquarters for the Income Tax Authority.

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav and University of Haifa President Prof. Aharon Ben-Zeev have signed an agreement to expand the university's satellite campus, located on Rehov Hanamal in the port area, Yediot Haifa reports. The agreement, signed at a ceremony at Yahav's office, provides for the construction of 20 classrooms on the port campus, along with other necessary facilities such as a reception area and a rooftop cafeteria. The port campus, which has been allotted 2,000 dunams, will make use of an existing building that used to serve as city headquarters for the Income Tax Authority. Currently, the campus is home to Tiltan College, a graphic design school with a student body of approximately 500. "A project that was just imagination is becoming reality. We want Haifa to become the leading university town in the country," said Yahav, who undertook to revitalize Haifa's lower city after being elected mayor. "The best way to revive the city is by bringing in thousands of students," he declared.
