The Education Ministry has approved additional benefits for teachers in Eilat, following a request from Eilat Mayor Meir Yitzhak Halevy. According to www.local.co.il, teachers who move to the country's southernmost city will have their relocation paid for and receive car stipends; one round-trip flight to central Israel every three weeks; have their pension fund contributions subsidized; and will be hired under individual contracts. A few months ago, Education Minister Yuli Tamir visited the city and was informed of the city's difficulty attracting teachers to its schools. Halevy and Dr. Drori Ganiel, head of the municipality's Education Department, informed the minister of their efforts to remedy the situation: a job fair for teachers in cooperation with the Education Ministry; participation at job fairs at the nation's various teachers' seminaries; advertising in university and college publications, and more. Halevy asked Tamir to approve the additional benefits and incentives.
