Kfar Saba has approved a budget of NIS 413.5 million for 2008, NIS 9.5 million more than in 2007, reports Ha'ir-Tzomet Hasharon. Among the projects planned for development this year are the second stage of the city's new park, with a budget of NIS 28 million, and the new "green neighborhood" at NIS 20 million. According to the report, other projects being planned for this year include: the completion of infrastructure work in Kiryat Sapir; repairs to the computer systems in all public and educational institutions; the creation of two new kindergartens; repairs to all schools in the city; an upgrading of the waste purification plant and sewerage lines; making public and educational institutions accessible to the disabled, and repairs to a number of existing streets. The report said the city expects earnings of NIS 220 million from municipal taxes, with the remainder of its budget to come from various government departments. The city expects to spend NIS 205 million on its functions and activities, NIS 185 million on salaries, and NIS 23 million on loan repayments. Only one councilor, Avinoam Granot, opposed the budget, saying this was the fourth time that the city had not enlarged the education budget, and that the budget for at-risk youth and welfare had in fact shrunk.
