Woman gets NIS 90,000 over fall

The Kiryat Yam Municipality has agreed to pay NIS 90,000 in compensation to an elderly woman who was injured when she tripped over a protrusion in the sidewalk, reports www.local.co.il. The 88-year-old woman, who walked with the aid of a cane, was hospitalized and had to undergo operations on her shoulder and knee after the fall. According to the report, the incident occured on Rehov Hameyasdim about 18 months ago, after which the woman was taken to Haifa's Carmel hospital where she underwent several operations and lengthy rehabilitation treatments. Her lawyers sued the city of Kiryat Yam and the Ayalon insurance company, attaching medical opinions stating that she had been left with "severe and painful" injuries and a permanent disability of some 59.5 percent. The report said the city and the insurance company agreed to pay the woman NIS 90,000 in compensation without acknowledging responsibility for the incident. The report also said the offending asphalt sidewalk had been removed and had been replaced with new paving stones.
