City to pay out in parking fine battle

A Ramat Hasharon woman has been awarded NIS 1,800 in compensation for "mental anguish" in a court battle over two old parking fines, reports www.local.co.il. A judge in the Herzliya Magistrates' Court ordered the Givatayim City Council to compensate the woman, saying that after issuing the fines the city had not pursued payment for several years and had allowed the debts to "grow old," but had recently changed its stance and had tried to force the woman to pay, even seeking to freeze her bank account. The judge said the city should simply have cancelled the fines, and ordered it to pay the woman NIS 1,800 for the "mental anguish" it had caused her.
