Operating on the principle that laughter is healing, the city of Herzliya has opened a course in "medical clowning" for the city's 10th-graders, reports www.local.co.il. Students can take part in the course as part of their obligatory personal service, and will be taught street theater, circus arts, story-telling and magic, all linked to health topics. Those who complete the course will be certified to perform in kindergartens, hospitals, geriatric homes, community centers and medical clinics. The report said that a similar program has been running in neighboring Ramat Hasharon in recent years, with great success.
