The Return - Yossi Bendor's speech

"My emotion is so intense and profound that it is hard for me to put it into words, that returning to the City of Tarragona is so important for me, just as it was for my forbears to have lived in this beloved city.
Over 500 years have passed since we had to abandon to our great regret this land which we so loved and which we still conserve in our heart. Our grandparents and parents have instilled in us the past customs, the language of Cervantes and the love for the distant Spain which for them was the homeland.
We, the Tarragan family, have lived for the past nine generations in Jerusalem, nevertheless we continue to remember Spain and especially the city which saw my ancestors grow up, the city of Tarragona.
Today’s meeting fills me with joy and emotion, and tenderness upon remembering my ancestors, seeing that we have returned here as guests of honor, respected, and feeling your affection for us.
My wife, Denise, who is present here, is also very active in the nucleus of Spanish Jewry. She works with Mr. Yitzhak Navon, the president of the National Authority of Ladino.
We thank you, my wife and I, for this so warm and loving reception, on behalf of my ancestors and ourselves. Many thanks."
