Abbas, Palestinian groups to discuss Israel truce

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is expected to meet with representatives of the major Palestinian factions in Gaza on Wednesday to discuss renewing the truce with Israel. PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat urged the representatives on Tuesday night to renew the truce in Gaza and to extend it to the West Bank within a few weeks. Erekat also asked them to stipulate the date on which the factions planned to cease Kassam rocket attacks on Israel. Israel Radio reported that the meeting in Gaza would be attended by representatives from Fatah, Hamas, the Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine. A Palestine source said that the groups were demanding that every IDF operation in the West Bank be met with rocket fire from Gaza.
