Abbas to UN chief: PA committed to peace

The Palestinians are committed to a truce and a comprehensive peace deal with Israel, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday after a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. Abbas said he is also committed to bringing about the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Schalit who is being held by Hamas militants. Abbas asked Ban to speed up the UN's plan to register Palestinian damage claims, following the construction of Israel's security fence in the West Bank.
