Arab League calls for nuclear-free Middle East

The secretary-general of the Arab League on Tuesday called for a nuclear-weapons free Middle East, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported. "Our goal is to establish a zone free from nuclear weapons in the Middle East," Xinhua quoted Amr Moussa as saying in an interview in Beijing. "It is not a nuclear issue of Iran but a nuclear issue of the Middle East," Moussa said when asked to comment on the standoff over Iran's nuclear program. Moussa's remarks appeared to be targeted at Israel, which is widely believed to have nuclear weapons but refuses to acknowledge or deny it.
