US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in a phone call on Tuesday on a number of Middle Eastern issues.

Fidan and Rubio spoke on ceasefire efforts in Gaza, a Turkish Foreign Ministry source said, adding Fidan had called for an immediate truce in Gaza and unhindered access to humanitarian aid.

The two also discussed their continued support for peace and stability in Syria, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. Iran's nuclear program was also among the topics discussed between the two.

They also discussed potential steps to end the Russia-Ukraine war. The source added that the two discussed the outcomes of talks between the US and Russian presidents in Alaska and a meeting in Washington involving European leaders, Ukraine, and the United States.

Turkish minister said Muslim nations must act against Israeli plans to take Gaza City

Fidan said earlier this month that Muslim nations "must act in unison and rally international opposition against Israel's plan to take control of Gaza City."

The Turkish minister made the statement after talks with Egypt, with both countries condemning the Israeli plan.

Ankara has said it marked a new phase in what it called Israel's "genocidal and expansionist policies," while calling for global measures to stop the plan's implementation.
