The United Arab Emirates’s Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum died on Monday at the age of 77, his family announced.
Al Maktoum was the brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s current prime minister and the ruler of Dubai.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended his condolences to the family in a post on X/Twitter.
“On behalf of the people of Israel, I send my sympathies to his family and the people of the United Arab Emirates,” he wrote in a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office. “May his family find comfort and strength at this difficult time.”
Opposition leader Yair Lapid also sent his condolences to the UAE.
“My sincere condolences are with the people and leaders of the United Arab Emirates on the passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The people of Israel mourn with our friends in the United Arab Emirates,” he wrote.
