Bomber kills 3 in Baghdad attack

A suicide bomber set off a blast among members of a police intelligence unit Wednesday, killing three people and wounding others, officials said. The attack in central Baghdad was part of a spate of bloodshed around Iraq, including a suicide car bombing that killed at least two police officers in Mosul and the slaying of an anti-insurgent tribal leader and his family north of Baghdad. Violence, however, has been generally down across the country in recent months. The suicide blast in Baghdad struck night-shift employees shortly after they left work. They were standing near a restaurant in the Karradah neighborhood, said an aide to Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Mousawi, the Iraqi military spokesman. The aide said three people were killed and four were wounded. Police and hospital officials confirmed the death count, but said 11 people were wounded, including three civilians. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release information.
