Cairo soccer coach jailed for insulting fans

A Cairo city court sentenced a soccer coach to six months in prison for insulting fans of an opposition team, a judicial official reported on Saturday night. Mortada Mansour, coach of the Zamalek club, was also fined 1,000 Egyptian pounds (US$174). The dispute arose after Mansour complained to authorities last year that hundreds of fans of the Ahli team attacked his house with stones and seriously wounded his daughter after Ahli defeated Zamalek. Ahli coach Hasan Hamdi countercharged that Mansour swore at the fans and used other insulting language. Mansour said he had done nothing worse than to call the Ahli fans assaulting his home supporters "fans of a despicable team."
