Doctors: PA healthcare on verge of collapse

Palestinian and Israeli doctors warned Wednesday that the Palestinian health-care system was on the verge of collapse, with some patients having already died due to lack of medicine and many more people at risk. Three doctors from Physicians for Human Rights, a private rights group, said that the economic sanctions Israel and the international community imposed on the Palestinian Authority after Hamas militants took power have forced Palestinian medical facilities to struggle just to provide emergency care. "There were global political decisions which did not take into consideration humanitarian issues, particularly the medical one," said Dr. Rafi Walden, an Israeli doctor. "Patients cannot survive being without vital medications for more than a few days."
