Egypt: 18 Muslim Brotherhood members arrested

Egyptian police on Sunday arrested 18 more senior members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group for allegedly holding anti-government meetings, their lawyer and police officials said. The arrests are the latest in a crackdown on the group amid reports that it plans to launch a political party to challenge the constitutional ban on Islamist political bodies. Brotherhood lawyer Abdel Moneim Abdel Maqsoud said eight were arrested in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria and ten in the Nile Delta province of Al-Sharqiya in early morning raids on their houses.
