Egypt arrests 25 members of banned Muslim Brotherhood

Egyptian police arrested 25 members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood in a pre-dawn sweep Tuesday, as part of an ongoing crackdown on the opposition movement, the group said. The police confirmed it has arrested Brotherhood members but said only 22 were taken into custody and gave no other details of the arrests. The discrepancy in the reported figures could not be immediately reconciled. In a statement posted on its Web site, the Brotherhood said 18 of its members were arrested in Sharqiya province and seven others in the Daqahliya province, in what the group described as a "continuation of the savage campaign carried out by the state security police."
