Iran's state radio says a methane gas explosion in a coal mine has killed 12 people in southeastern Iran.
The report says the miners were killed Monday in Babnizoo coal mine near Zaran, 950 kilometers southeast of the capital, Tehran. The mine is one of the country's largest.
The broadcast says miners cited "irresponsibility" and "low safety" conditions as the main reasons for the blast.
It says five bodies have been recovered and efforts are under way to remove the remaining seven bodies from the mine.
