Fatah, Hamas pledge no violence on election day

The Fatah and its main contender Hamas pledged Wednesday to avoid violence on election day next week and to work together after the elections. The joint statement, the first since the election campaign began in early January, was recognition by Fatah that Hamas is poised to make significant gains in the Jan. 25 elections. "We reassure our people that we will work jointly and together after the elections God willing to enhance political partnership and strengthen the Palestinian institution, and to cooperate in the benefit of our people and case," the statement said.
