Gunbattle near Abbas' Gaza residence during arrest

Masked Palestinian police traded gunfire with relatives of a man they had come to arrest Saturday in a street battle near President Mahmoud Abbas' official residence in Gaza City, security officials said. Abbas was in Gaza holding meetings at the time of the shootout, which was unrelated to Palestinian political tensions. There were no immediate reports of casualties. Security officials said police stormed a building about 400 meters (yards) from the presidential residence to arrest a wanted man. During the raid, the suspect's relatives opened fire on the lawmen and a running gunbattle involving dozens of people broke out in the streets.
