A member of Hamas' delegation in Cairo said on Wednesday that the rival Palestinian groups have held successful "icebreaking" meetings ahead of Thursday's reconciliation talks.
Izzat Rashaq said that the meetings Wednesday and the night before were meant to create a positive atmosphere between the ruling Fatah and the militant Hamas.
Fatah, which rules the West Bank, and Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, have been bitter rivals for years. The rift came to a head in June 2007 when Hamas violently seized control of Gaza after days of street fights with Fatah.
This is the fifth meeting this year between Hamas and Fatah delegations in Egypt.
